Travis Air Force Base was approved for more funding last week -- this time to improve access to and from Solano County through the North Gate at the base.
Congressman John Garamendi, D-Solano, reported in a press release that a bill approved by the House of Representatives includes a $750,000 earmark he requested for the North Gate.

Three months after the Deepwater Horizon disaster - which has dumped more than 12 times the amount of oil from the Exxon Valdez spill into the Gulf of Mexico - we have cautious room for optimism. If the cap on BP's Deepwater Horizon oil well holds - and that's a big if - the cause of the worst oil disaster in U.S. history will have finally been patched.

At a Livermore community college on Monday, Rep. John Garamendi, D-Walnut Grove, detailed a bill he's introducing today that would establish a technology transfer center at Lawrence Livermore and Sandia/California national laboratories. Such a center would help ease the transfer of research from the national labs to the private sector.
Students at public universities in California are planning a series of demonstrations across the state protesting tuition hikes today. While a few isolated incidents in recent weeks have provided fodder for some in the media to dismiss their concerns, the students' cause is incredibly important. If we continue to yearly raise tuition in California far beyond inflation, we threaten to derail all that has enabled my home state to prosper in decades past.

Rep. John Garamendi, D-Walnut Grove, has signed on as a co-author of legislation that would require the the health insurance industry to follow the same anti-trust laws imposed on other businesses.
The legislation comes on the heels of outcry over Anthem Blue Cross’ announcement that it would raise premiums as much as 39 percent for some customers.
